What we do

The UK Centre for the History of Nursing and Midwifery (UKCHNM) is dedicated to research and education in the history of nursing and midwifery. It is based at the University of Manchester and acts in collaboration with the Royal College of Nursing Archives and the Royal College of Nursing History of Nursing Society.

    UKCHNM at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work has a dedicated team of academics who can help students undertake doctoral studies in this field
  • The Centre would like to congratulate Colleen Bowers on being awarded the Mona Grey Prize in 2008
  • Monica Baly Bursary
    Funding to a maximum of £1,000 for projects on the history of nursing (and midwifery or health visiting, if the applicant is a member of the Royal College of Nursing). Application deadline: 5 September 2008

    Available as part of postgraduate taught or research programmes or as stand-alone modules
