What we do

The UK Centre for the History of Nursing and Midwifery (UKCHNM) is dedicated to research and education in the history of nursing and midwifery. It is based at the University of Manchester and acts in collaboration with the Royal College of Nursing Archives and the Royal College of Nursing History of Nursing Society.

UK Association for the History of Nursing (UKAHN)

The UKAHN is a scholarly society. Its purpose is the exchange of information and ideas about the history of nursing. The Association offers a bi-annual bulletin and a yearly colloquium. It is a constituent association of the European Association for the History of Nursing (EAHN):

  • The Monica Baly Bursary for 2012 : view details of the application process
    Funding to a maximum of £1,000 for projects on the history of nursing (and midwifery or health visiting, if the applicant is a member of the Royal College of Nursing)
  • Mona Grey Prize
    Prize, worth 250, awarded for the best PhD proposal submitted in any given year
