Dr Sorrel Burden Ph.D. MA, MSc,SD, BSc (Hons)
Role
Sorrel currently works as a Research Fellow at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work supported by a Post Doctoral Fellowship from Macmillan Cancer Care. This is a 5 year fellowship concentrating on integrating nutrition into the care pathway for colorectal cancer patients. The programme of work is centred on the frame work for developing complex interventions into clinical practice. The first phase of the work is to undertake some qualitative interviews followed by an evaluation of an intervention and assessment of outcomes. This work then leads to a pilot study for a randomised controlled trial in preoperative colorectal cancer patients. Other research interests and projects Sorrel is involved in look at nutritional support in cancer patients in the acute setting and also in survivorship
Clinically Sorrel works as a Lead Dietitian in Nutritional Support and Gastroenterology at Central Manchester University Hospital Foundation Trust. This work predominantly involves parenteral nutrition and Coeliac Disease.

Biography
Sorrel graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Home Economics Degree in 1990 and subsequently went on to do a Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics at Leeds Metropolitan University. She worked initially as a dietitian at Broardgreen Hospital in Liverpool and then as a senior dietitian at Leigh Infirmary and Withington Hospital in Manchester. She started working as a dietitian in Manchester Royal infirmary in 1999 and then obtained funding to undertake a PhD. Now Sorrel has a post between the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work and Manchester Royal Infirmary incorporating both a research and clinical role.
