
Work conducted at Manchester
The focus of the Unit's work at The University of Manchester is community- based and long-term care, particularly in relation to services for older people and people with mental health problems. Increasingly the research programme addresses issues relating to the interface between health and social care.
PSSRU branches
The Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) was established at the University of Kent in 1974 and is mainly funded by the Department of Health. Since 1996 it has been a multi-site unit, with branches at the London School of Economics and the University of Manchester.
The PSSRU has not only examined government care policies over a lengthy period it has also shaped and influenced them. Its research is disseminated to:
- academic audiences
- policy makers
- field professionals and managers
