Studentships and funding

Candidates are invited to contact the School at an early stage in order to explore opportunities to develop proposals for applications for external fellowships, e.g. Medical Research Council (MRC), Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). As it sometimes takes a long time to secure funding, students are advised to apply for a place at the same time as they seek funding.

Early discussions with potential supervisors may help students in their search for funding. Students interested in preparing competitive fellowship proposals are encouraged to talk to members of staff for potential collaboration.

Studentships

Funded studentships allow graduates to undertake a particular, fully funded research course under the guidance of a specific supervisor. These are advertised when funding becomes available. General funding (bursaries) may also be available. Studentships may be funded by charities, government and non-governmental organisations.

Studentships for UK/EU applicants

Government and research council awards: ESRC and MRC fund outstanding full-time postgraduate research students in the UK, including a maintenance stipend, research support and fees.

Studentships for non-EU (international) applicants
